Technology in AA Hospitality Suite

…at the 2025 AA International Convention

July 3-6, 2025 — Vancouver, BC Canada
Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, Cheakamus Suite

Join with members from around the world who are helping to build and support technology tools to help carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous, anywhere, anytime.

Three organizations — separate but sharing a common purpose and audience — have joined together to sponsor and host a hospitality suite for the 2025 AA International Convention. Our suite is a combined effort of Technology in AA Online Community, the National AA Technology Workshop, and Code for Recovery. Come to our suite to meet members who are dedicated to supporting our fellowship in becoming better at serving our fellowship’s primary purpose — …to “carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.”

We also will have demonstrations of how AA members are creating a “real AA experience” using virtual reality technology!!!

Technology meetings at the 2025 AA International Convention

A few members of the tiaa-forum reviewed the preliminary convention and selected sessions that either mentioned technology or we thought probably might deal with technology. You can see this list at this link.

What is the Purpose of our Hospitality Suite?

We suppose most we want to fellowship and meet as many attending the convention as possible. But, as our planning committee considered important motivations, we settled on a few:

  • To connect with members of our organizations from around the world and other convention attendees (new members?)
  • To build awareness of available technologies and technology resources (tiaa-forum.org, NAATW, C4R, OIAA, etc.)
  • To share existing and new ways technology can support recovery
  • To promote fellowship in an increasingly digital world
  • To demonstrate the application of AA principles while using technology

Technology in AA Online Community

The forum has over 3,000 members who ask for and offer help on just about everything having to do with carrying the message of AA through technology.

Some information is available (without joining) on our public website here — however the real juicy information is only available for members.

  • Hot Topics – these are some summaries of forum discussions. Gives an idea of what we’re about.
  • About the forum – what our forum is
  • About Us – some more about our forum community
  • Forum FAQ – frequently asked questions
  • Contact Us – get in touch with questions

And most important, how to join! TIAA is a member-only forum, open to members of AA and those who support AA services.

The National AA Technology Workshop

NAATW is the National AA Technology Workshop (“Workshop”). The Workshop is an annual event where those interested in using technology in service to Alcoholics Anonymous gather to share experience. The Workshop is a place to share ideas, connect with other AAs interested in technology, and bring these ideas back to our respective homes.

We are a community organization, as such we ensure the continuity of the Workshop; produce, preserve, and share the Workshop content (where possible); and act as a clearinghouse for connecting people interested in our mission of using Technology to serve AA’s mission.

We are A.A. members with no special authority. We are here to serve regarding technology. We are invited guests who are not affiliated with the General Service Organization of Alcoholics Anonymous. We are a small team of volunteers with broad experience across technology fields. Our financial resources are limited.

What We Do

  • Suggest roles to focus on this area of service.
  • Trust our trusted servants.
  • Encourage the sharing of solutions that prove useful and any related experience.
  • Offer experience to other A.A. service committees.
  • Evolve deeper service guidelines and insights into applying our A.A. Traditions.

Registration is now open!

About Code for Recovery

Code for Recovery (C4R) is a nonprofit volunteer organization that develops and maintains open-source tools to support 12-step recovery communities. Our mission is to empower local service bodies by providing accessible, community-driven technology solutions for managing and sharing meeting data.

Software for Servants.

Top Projects

All projects are available at github.com/code4recovery.

These tools collectively enable AA service bodies to publish accurate, accessible, and up-to-date meeting information across multiple platforms.

  • 12 Step Meeting List (TSML):
A WordPress plugin that enables AA districts, intergroups, central offices, and areas to manage and publish meeting schedules. The meeting list can easily be integrated with the Meeting Guide app.
  • TSML-UI:
An embeddable front-end interface that displays meeting data in a searchable list and map format. It is designed to work seamlessly with TSML and other meeting data sources that comply with the JSON Spec.
  • PDF:
A service that generates printable PDF meeting schedules directly from JSON Spec–compatible data.
  • Sheets:
A project that allows users to manage and publish meeting data using Google Sheets. Ideal for groups or districts without WordPress infrastructure, enabling them to connect a Google Sheet to TSML-UI and the Meeting Guide app.

Online Intergroup Support

C4R is the developer and maintainer of the software powering the Online Intergroup’s meeting list. C4R is actively developing a new suite of apps and services aimed at improving performance, increasing resiliency, and providing innovative ways for service entities to manage and publish meeting lists.

Get Involved!

Code for Recovery welcomes volunteers to join our mission! We are a community of developers who are also members of a 12-step recovery program (or similar recovery community). If you’re passionate about service and have skills in PHP, TypeScript, React, or similar technologies (even if you’re just learning), we invite you to contribute your talents to our open-source projects and help support recovery communities worldwide.

Code for Recovery is supported by the 7th Tradition — self-support through our own contributions. If you find our work valuable, please consider making a donation to help us continue providing free and open-source tools for the recovery community.

Instructions for completing this form

Name (required):

The name you use here is not verified and only used to control for spam and bot submissions. It will not be tied to your account. You can create and edit a profile disclosing the account name and information you wish to expose to the community (not publicly visible outside the forum) when and after you join.

Email (required):

Email where the invitation to join will be sent. This will also become a default primary way of logging in or recovering your password. We recommend a personal email address (e.g. your_name@example.com) instead of a “positional” email address (e.g. webmaster@your_intergroup.org) unless you intend for you membership to rotate with the person holding the position in the future. This email address can be changed after you join if you wish to change it by editing your profile information.

Affirmation (required):

By the group conscience of the members, this forum is only open to members of AA and those non-members of AA supporting AA services (e.g. Intergroup offices, AA service structure, etc.).

Topic interests (required):

If you are interested in conversations in more than one  technical topic area (e.g. web sites, answering services, virtual meetings, etc.) or have a general curiosity about AA discussions in general (e.g. topics above and beyond technology like committees and group dynamics), you would probably want to select the default “General” option.

If your primary interest is in Archives only, you probably want to select the “Archives” option. Note that with either option, you will still have access to all topics on the forum but with the “Archives” option, your “home screen” will automatically place you in the “Archives” category where most of those conversations happen.

About your payment processing on our site
